It's All About John Peel
03:20

All of the times that I taped your show
Was just a fraction of the times that someone taped your show
Love of music made me send you demo tapes
And as the man who might listen to them you had lots of demo tapes
Just in the hope that one of us
Might be the next band that you loved
As we found bands that we loved
When we taped your show
Is the wrong that the songs upon his tribute CD start off at the right speed
And whatever went on it would always be wrong for leaving out all the festive fifties
We could not replace him, now the fun of finding music's on you
And when searching for the new ask yourself
'What would John Peel do'
What we also loved was your human touch
Your music taste was often questionable, that's what made you one of us
Without you there were bands that we would have missed
I tried to list the bands we would have missed but it was just too long a list
As you ploughed through music's footnotes
And otherwise long lost notes
And bands we thought that only we knew
That's what made you one of us.

Don't Go Changing
04:40
|

I've always thought that idealism is the best place to start
And to never let your head ruin the chances you make with your heart
So don't go changing, my sweet
I'm in love with these times despite all these thoughts that go on in my mind
Where scenarios are played out and then I kiss you, thousands of times a day
So don't go changing, my sweet
The happiest moments in all of this life
Are the times you lie there and look into someone's eyes
When nothing is said because nothing could add
To the moment of time that has just passed
Then the world around you fades away
Years of history lead you to one day
And as we walked the streets I truly felt
The city of Rome was built for us
Here is the post script right at the ending I just wanted to say
That I'll always look back and I'll always smile and I'll always think that way
So don't go changing, my sweet
The city of Rome was built for us
The city of Rome was built for us
The city of Rome was built for us
And, the city of Rome was built for us

"Computers now give us this chance to tap into the randomness of the world"
He said one Friday evening alone
When he set up a myspace of his own
She had other uses for myspace and used it to get herself some hot dates
The messages said 'jiggy wit u hun'
So she gave up trying to find a nice man
So now what we're left with, we're stuck with these profiles
They're drifting the net on their own
He filled his with the bands that he loved
While she left hers well alone
And from looking at their General Interests you would never thought they'd get on
But as Kitson said, myspace users forget that you just can't predict connections
He filled his profile with geeky bands but his passion for them was borderline cool
Or so I'd have you believe
Because here's about a boy who's just like me
And who would have thought the two of them would end up seeing The Wedding Present
They'd both go to the band's site the next day
To see what everyone else had to say
She saw the message he left in their comments
'Oh what a great gig that was guys'
"Christ, this boy he is so naïve
As if David Gedge runs the fansite"
But she still clicked him much to her suprise
Maybe it was the look in his eyes
The messages soon lead them to MSM
And there was this connection between them
And from all this they ended up dating
Even though their profiles didn't match
And with their lives mapped out ahead
I asked what would happen next
Because halfway through writing this song I suddenly became aware
That the ending says as much about me, as it does about a boy who's just like me
And as the author it would be my fault should anything go wrong
So do let them drift apart or would optimism play a role?
So as the author I can see the end so clearly now
And I'm just going to tell you that it was a happy ending somehow
Queue bus ride into the sunset with passengers all gawping
Because even after all I've done and sung, I still believe in happy endings
